Privacy Policy
MedScanX (“we,” “us,” or “the app”) helps you identify which official medicine label a package may match, using barcode/NDC lookup and optional label reading. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. MedScanX is an informational reference tool — not medical advice.
1. Summary
- No account is required for the core MVP experience.
- Match history and Library data are stored on your device by default.
- We use the camera (and optionally photos you select) to scan packages.
- Public label lookups may query third-party public APIs (for example openFDA).
- Optional cloud vision processing may send an image you choose to scan to our backend for OCR/assist — only when that path is used.
- We do not sell your personal information.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide or create on device
- Scan results / MatchCards. Product match details, confidence, match method, and related label fields you confirm or edit. Stored locally in the app unless you clear them.
- Library / history. A list of successful MatchCards on this device.
- Purchase status. Whether MedScanX Pro is unlocked (via Apple’s StoreKit / App Store). We do not receive your full payment card details; Apple processes payment.
- Support messages. If you email us, we receive the content of your message and your email address.
2.2 Camera and photos
- Camera. With your permission, MedScanX uses the camera to capture medicine package barcodes and labels for informational lookup. Camera frames are processed for scanning; we do not operate a social camera roll or permanent cloud photo gallery.
- Photos / library. If you choose to pick an image from your photo library or share an image into the app, that image is used only to perform the scan you requested. Prefer limited photo picker access where the OS provides it.
2.3 On-device processing
Where available, barcode detection and on-device vision/OCR run on your iPhone. On-device processing keeps image content on the device for that path. Results you save (MatchCards) remain in local app storage until you delete them or uninstall the app.
2.4 Network requests for public label data
To look up structured product labeling, the app may send identifiers such as an NDC, barcode-derived code, or search string to public data sources (for example openFDA). Those queries contain the lookup parameters needed to retrieve label information — not your name or Apple ID.
2.5 Optional cloud vision (Lambda / API)
If you use a cloud-assisted scan feature (when enabled in the app), an image of the package you submit may be transmitted to our hosted scan API for vision/OCR processing and returned as structured MatchCard-aligned data. Images sent for this purpose are used to fulfill your request. We design this path to minimize retention; do not use cloud scan for content you are unwilling to transmit. On-device alternatives may be available depending on version.
3. How we use information
- Provide Verified Label Match / MatchCard results and Library history
- Enforce freemium limits and restore MedScanX Pro via Apple
- Improve reliability and fix crashes (if diagnostic/analytics tools are added later, we will update this policy and App Store nutrition labels)
- Respond to support requests
- Comply with law and protect against abuse
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share limited data with:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf (for example cloud hosting for optional vision scan), under instructions consistent with this policy
- Public data providers that receive lookup queries (NDC / search terms) as described above
- Apple for App Store distribution, purchases, and related platform services
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security
5. Retention
On-device MatchCards and Library entries remain until you delete them or remove the app. Support emails are retained as needed to resolve your request. Optional cloud scan payloads are processed to return a result; we do not build advertising profiles from your scans.
6. Your choices and controls
- Deny or revoke camera / photos permission in iOS Settings
- Delete individual Library items or clear Match history in the app (where available)
- Uninstall the app to remove local app data
- Manage subscriptions and purchases through your Apple ID / App Store settings
- Contact us to ask questions about this policy
7. Children
MedScanX is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to an informational consumer app. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Protect your device with a passcode and keep iOS updated.
9. International users
Label data sources and hosting regions may be located in the United States or other countries. If you use MedScanX from outside those regions, your information may be processed where our providers operate.
10. Marketing website
Our website at medscanx.1dot.ai is a static marketing site. It may log standard web server or CDN request metadata (such as IP address, user agent, and pages requested) as part of hosting and security. The site does not require an account.
11. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of MedScanX after changes means you accept the updated policy.
